Never do this to your washing machine

Never do this to your washing machine

Washing machines are convenient because they eliminate or minimize the need to wash clothes by hand. We put in dirty clothes, water, and detergent, and they come out clean. However, it’s easy to get too lazy and end up doing things that are damaging to your machine.

Here are some things you should never do to your washing machine.

Forget to sort

The first thing we are taught about laundry is that we should separate white and colored clothing. This is so that the colors won’t bleed into your white clothes. Other than separating these, you also need to check the material your clothes are made of, and if there are unwanted items in your pockets. Coins, pens, markers, and other small items could damage your clothes and your machine.

Use too much detergent

Using more detergent will not mean that your clothes will become more clean or get clean faster. Instead, take advantage of your washing machine’s pre-wash settings or wash them two times instead. While this is more time-consuming, it’s kinder to your washing machine. Excess detergent can also be harder to rinse off and may accumulate inside your machine.

Leave wet clothes inside

One thing we love about washing machines is that we can set the timer and forget about it for a while. We attend to other chores or get busy on our phones. However, if you leave a washed load of laundry inside your machine for too long, you will get a smelly, damaged load of clothes. Set a timer or reminder on your phone if you need to step away for a bit.

Keep it unbalanced

Make sure that your washing machine is stable and leveled. You would notice if it’s unbalanced if you could hear your machine working harder than it should. This can damage the clothes inside your machine and be rough on your washing machine’s parts as well.

Washing machines are always a worthy investment for every household. You can find yours at your nearest EMCOR store!
